QUICK PHOTO TIPS FOR PHOTOGRAPHNG BABIES and KIDS

  • Sleeping babies are easiest to photograph, but if you want them awake, well rested, well fed babies make the best subjects.
  • If you are having a photographer take your photos, please be sure to have them email us permission to use their photographs. We typically like to add a photo credit to the backside of the announcement. Any photos taken from JC Penney, Babies R Us, Olan Mills, Sears, Picture People, etc. cannot be used.
  • Put your baby on a solid colored blanket, patterns can be distracting.
  • Keep the focus on your baby and zoom in close.
  • Babies look best in their birthday suits, solid patterns or just a plain, white diaper.
  • Use the highest possible resolution setting on your digital camera.
  • Please make sure your photos are at least 1200 x 1600 pixels.
  • For outdoor photography, best light is one hour before sunset. Natural light is the best lighting.
  • Get up close to your baby, at their level.
  • Don't forget to take photos of their little hands, feet, ears, lips.
  • Please remember to turn off the date stamp to off mode.
  • Take lots and lots of pictures and email us the best ones.
  • And please do not take photos with a your cell phone, The quality will not be good for printing and we will ask you to
retake the photos with a digital camera.

What resolution do I need to use for my pictures?
A 4x6 image at 300dpi (1200x1600 pixels) is ideal for digital photos, but the higher the resolution, the better. The file is best when sent to us as a jpeg photo that is uncropped, uneditied, uncompressed and in the original, high resolution it was taken, that way we can do the cropping, editing and color corrections so it fits in with our designs and layouts. Anything less than this and you run the risk of being disappointed with the print quality. Make sure your email does not compress your photos for you, they will not be what we consider to be print quality. If we feel that your photo quality will not produce nicely, we might ask you to resend your photos or retake them if necessary. Please understand that this is for your benefit.
